Description: History: One of the first English to French translations completed during Lord Byron's life. The first volume has a frontispiece portrait of Byron, followed by a sketch of the author's life and writings. George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron, was a leading figure in the Romantic movement. He is best known for his darkly romantic poems, such as "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage" and "Manfred." His other notable works include "The Prisoner of Chillon" and "Don Juan." Condition: Beautiful edition complete in ten volumes. Tooled leather covers with gilt work on spines. Rubbing to extremities; corners bumped. All page edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. Cracked hinges, light foxing, toning present. Page 135/136 detached in Volume 1. Dogeared pages in Volume 4.
